Stellaria and Thorizon  – Molten fuel salt synthesis and characterization

Amentum is part of a tripartite research collaboration with molten salt reactor developers Stellaria and Thorizon, drawing on specialist skills at our chemistry laboratories in Warrington, UK.

Stellaria is currently developing Stellarium, a reactor with an expected net capacity of 250Mwe. Thorizon is designing the 100MWe Thorizon One.

Amentum is carrying out research to characterize the behavior of molten salts in particular conditions, providing data which will inform the design and selection of materials used in the reactors.  

This innovative collaboration is providing insights into the shape and quality of salts to be used and the salt synthesis methodologies and characterization, while optimizing results sharing and the cost of research and development.
