At ITER, the world’s largest fusion power experiment, Amentum leads the MOMENTUM joint venture, supporting construction of the ITER tokamak and coordinating the assembly of more than one million components. The contract began in 2016 but our support to the 35-nation initiative, based in Provence, France, goes back decades.

Amentum designed prototypes for the first wall panels which protect the machine from plasma temperatures of up to 150 million degrees Celsius. We also helped to deliver the ITER Preliminary Safety Report, electrical control and instrumentation control systems and qualification of components.

Amentum also carried out design and engineering work on remote handling tools for maintaining the stainless steel plugs that will seal off the ports on the Tokamak and Hot Cell Complex, which are essential for the complex task of carrying and protecting the machine’s precious payloads.
