Thorizon – Instrumentation and control systems

Amentum is supporting Thorizon in the development of its molten salt reactor, a next-generation technology with a targeted net capacity of 100MWe.
In 2024, Thorizon asked us to support definition of the instrumentation and control (I&C) system design and the overall system architecture as part of its Dossier d’Options de Sûreté (Safety Option File) submission to France’s nuclear regulator.
The scope covers both the development of the I&C system design basis, in line with the requirements of the IAEA Safety Guide SSG-39, and the definition of the overall architecture at plant level, providing a high-level framework for the plant’s I&C systems.
Delivered during the preliminary design phase, the work is based on available engineering inputs and validated assumptions agreed with the client. It focuses on applying a defence-in-depth approach, ensuring robustness and safety.
