CHANTILLY, VA., July 23, 2026 — Amentum (NYSE: AMTM) has been awarded a contract to design and modernize a critical part of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program infrastructure.

The three-year contract, worth $85 million, will recapitalize the Navy’s spent fuel examination capabilities at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho. The examinations performed in this new facility play a critical role in keeping the Navy’s nuclear fleet running safely and effectively. By studying used fuel cores, scientists and engineers can compare real-world performance with predictions from their design and testing processes, ensuring the fleet’s continued mission readiness.

“This new project underscores Amentum’s commitment to supporting the design, engineering, and operational excellence required to sustain the U.S. Navy’s nuclear-powered fleet. By modernizing these vital examination capabilities, Amentum is helping to enhance the Navy’s ability to evaluate, optimize and extend the performance of nuclear fuel cores far into the future,” said Mark Whitney, president of Amentum’s Energy & Environment business. “Our nuclear expertise spans the full spectrum of the nuclear project lifecycle. We deliver safe, innovative and reliable nuclear solutions worldwide. Our integrated global nuclear capabilities enable us to tackle the most demanding challenges like helping the U.S. Navy uphold America’s maritime dominance.”

For more than 75 years, the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) has exemplified innovation and technological advancement – harnessing nuclear energy to power a global fleet with unmatched safety, reliability and cost-effectiveness. The NNPP is a joint Department of Energy and Department of Navy organization that oversees the design, development and operational support needed to maintain the Navy’s strategic maritime superiority. The program ensures warfighters benefit from a fleet that delivers unequaled endurance, stealth, responsiveness and warfighting capability.

The U.S. Navy operates the world’s largest nuclear-powered fleet, comprising 11 active aircraft carriers and more than 70 submarines.
